In  Malawi, a child was born with both male and female genitals. Both parents and the local traditional leaders felt it was a taboo to keep the child.

I was involved with women within the community, and used my connections to meet the parents the moment I was made aware of the child, and the parent’s decisions.

I spoke to them about how unique every human life was, and how special we all were, perhaps we were less special than this child. My pleas moved them, and they kept the child.

I am happy to have saved a life through my effort and intervention and glad I was able to change the minds of the parents and the community through education and compassion.
